Governor of Punjab Balighur Rehman administered the oath of office to newly elected Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz.
According to the private TV station "Jeo News," the Punjab Chief Minister's oath-taking ceremony took place at Governor House in Lahore. Leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League and Pakistan People's Party attended.
After the Punjab's newly elected Chief Minister was sworn in, supporters of the Muslim League (N) and the PP shouted slogans in support of their respective organisations.
It should be mentioned that yesterday saw the reelection of Muslim League (N) nominee Hamza Shehbaz as Punjab's Chief Minister. Following the by-elections on the 20 assembly seats that were de-notified in accordance with the Supreme Court's judgement, voting was held to elect the Chief Minister of Punjab. The majority of people backed Hamza Shehbaz.
After an approximately 3-hour delay, the Punjab Assembly's meeting for the election of the state's chief minister got underway at 7 p.m. yesterday, and Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari then commenced the voting. Parvez Elahi received 186 votes, while Hamza Shehbaz of the Muslim League-N received 179.
The Muslim League (Q) chairman Chaudhary Shujaat, however, urged the Muslim League (Q) members to vote for Hamza Shahbaz in a letter that was read out by Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari after the voting had ended.
