According to a No. 10 source, Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench Tory MPs, talked with Mr. Johnson and got his consent to step aside.
By the time of the Conservative Party conference in October, a new Tory leader is anticipated to have taken office; Mr. Johnson intends to act as acting prime minister in the interim.
The PM "will make a statement to the country today," according to a No. 10 official, and the BBC stated that it is most likely to happen before lunchtime.
Despite growing calls for him to resign and a wave of resignations that has seen more than 50 Tory MPs depart the Government in less than 48 hours, Mr. Johnson initially promised to continue fighting.
