FIVE YEARS TO PAKISTAN’S historic WIN AGAINST INDIA
By defeating India by a massive margin of 180 runs in the championship, Pakistan cemented its place in history.
Thought to be the favourites going into the final, the India team was first destroyed by the Pakistani batting order, with youngster Fakhar Zaman hitting his first century on the greatest stage imaginable. While Muhammad Amir's powerful opening spell proved impossible for the envious Indian batting order to overcome.
Fakhar Zaman and Azhar Ali, Pakistan's openers, gave Pakistan a superb start of 126 runs, helping Pakistan take the lead early. Fakhar scored 114, while Azhar Ali scored 59. Hafeez's quickfire 57 and Babar Azam's 46 in the middle order built on the strong start to produce a score of 338-4 in their 50 overs.
If Bumrah had not overstepped, leaving Fkahar Zaman behind with a team total of 9, things might have turned out differently. How was Fakhar making them pay?
When Muhammad Amir's ball caught the edge of Virat's bat and sailed to the slips cordon, it was another crucial moment that might have determined the outcome of the game. But Azhar Ali was unable to seize it. The 2014 Asia Cup, when Kohli made 183 runs against Pakistan and led India's pursuit of 330 runs giant Pakistan, came to mind as the entire nation of Pakistan was mute as to how expensive would this drop cost.
